1970’s Self Portrait was an album unlike anything Dylan had previously released. It was a diffuse collection containing several new songs, folk songs, a few live performances, and various pop standards. After the initial sessions, Dylan left the recordings in the hands of producer Bob Johnston, who added full orchestrations.
