The Grand Foyer alone – with its breathtaking, ‘see-and-be-seen’ marble staircase – is reason enough to visit Paris’ Opéra Garnier. Constructed by order of Napoléon III between 1860 and 1875 and named after the man who built it, Charles Garnier, the opera house is today predominantly used for ballet performances, but also for classical opera.
