Today we remember World War I Medal of Honor recipient Capt. Marcellus Chiles. A Colorado native, Chiles posthumously received the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Meuse-Argonne Campaign. Newly in command on Nov. 3, 1918, he led his battalion in a daring charge across a deep stream while under heavy machine gun fire. A sniper's bullet mortally wounded Chiles, who turned over his command and urged the battalion forward. His men achieved their objective, but Chiles died shortly after reaching

Today we remember World War I Medal of Honor recipient Cpl. Freddie Stowers. On Sept. 28, 1918, after his company was virtually decimated, Stowers by his example led the remains of his company in a bold attack on German machine gun positions. Mortally wounded during the assault, Stowers nevertheless urged his men on towards their objective. Stowers is buried at Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, France.
