Test driving a root smudge with @keracolorhair Color Depositing Clenditioner in shade Mocha because it’s the closest Keracolor option to my natural hair color. I chose this product for my root smudge because I know myself and I’m gonna want my white blonde hair back and soon. Plus I’ve never had a root smudge close to my natural hair color before, so I wasn’t sure if I would like it. The Keracolor Clenditioners are a great way to play with color without commitment because eventually they wash ou

After 3 years of waiting our madder root is ready to harvest. This root has been used for centuries as a natural dye source. The dye extracted from the root can produce a range of colors, from oranges, pinks to deep reds. In our latest eco printing session, we used the madder root fresh so it provided a peachy/orange color. I love the pigments that we extracted from the various leaf sources. The black walnut leaf is always a favorite print. This eco print on habotai silk is going to be a fabulou

Today I was fine turning my madder root watercolour recipe for my upcoming book! As you paint makers know, each batch can produce different results but today’s pigment was a lovely & rich red. Madder likes a certain temperature during dye extraction (to produce the best red shades) so I was experimenting with different batches extracted at different temperatures. I’ll be a lifelong student of natural dyes because it’s a vast world out there & full of so many plant colours (oh, and also mushrooms

MY BEST TIPS TO GET STARTED GROWING MADDER ROOT ❤️🧡 its fun and super easy! . It’s magical to be able to grow my own ‘red gold’ just outside the door. . Madder is an ancient plant that our ancestors used for dyeing rich red fabrics, but also for medicine, food, and rituals, valued for its healing properties. . The Rubia tinctoria variety, is frost-tolerant, so it can easily be grown in cooler climates. . 🔸🔸Here are my tips to get started growing madder root 🔸🔸 . ✔️If you’re having trouble g

This gorgeous pink was hand-dyed on our Galileo Sport bare yarn using madder root! 😲💗 (by luluhuesandviews on TikTok) Rubia tinctorum—the scientific name for Dyer’s Madder—requires a metal-based mordant to bond to natural fibers. She uses alum, which you can often find in the spice aisle. Like most natural dyes, madder root is fugitive and will fade over time. Please note: This is their personal dyeing method, not a tutorial. Brown Madder (PR175) carries the legacy of one of the world’s oldest dyes — Madder root — used for thousands of years to colour textiles, manuscripts, and paintings. The original plant-based lakes were beautiful but notoriously unstable and sensitive to light. PR175 was developed as a modern, lightfast, synthetic alternative: a rich, earthy red with smoother handling, stronger tinting power, and none of the fading issues of historical Madder. It keeps the soul of the old colour, but gives artist

If your curious what two natural colors I used to create this beautiful purple color, I used madder root and indigo powders 2 tsp of each for about 70 oz of oils/butters i added the colors into my lye water but sometimes it's easier to mix into the crystals FYI 💜💜 Happy soaping! #Wildflower #spring #coldprocesssoap #soapcutting #nontoxicsoap

Jamie Luning/Dead Happy Design EST 2014 on Instagram: "Madder Root is a natural stain you can use without mordant for a beautiful red. It’s so easy. Just cook the root down in a pot for an hour+ in water until nicely saturated. Add the bones after it’s done. Steaming liquid doesn’t mean it’s too hot but if you prefer to wait until it’s cool that’s fine as well. Let the bones soak until you get the color you want. If you are doing skulls with teeth, pull the teeth out first to prevent staining. -
