The gharial is one of the most unusual crocodilians in the world, easily identified by its long, slender snout lined with sharp, interlocking teeth. Native to river systems of the Indian subcontinent—particularly in India and Nepal—this distinctive shape is perfectly suited for catching fish, which make up most of its diet. Unlike other crocodiles, gharials are not adapted for ambushing large prey. Their narrow jaws lack the strength to crush animals, but they excel in swift currents where speed
