Portaging a canoe can be brutal when the bugs are bad because it’s tough to free up your hands to swat them while holding onto the boat. So, before I start slogging through the bush with the canoe over my head, I put on some Muskol 30% Deet Insect Repellant. I always keep some in an accessible spot like in the little pouch you see on my bag here. Waves crashed on the beach as strong winds blew across a massive wilderness lake in northern Canada. My brother Ted and I had over 40km to travel by canoe this day so we put ourselves to work and using pulleys, cordage, poles and a tarp, we managed to rig a sale for our canoes.
