Dec 14, 2024 · I started The Sprawl in 2017 as a pop-up journalism experiment in response to the hollowing of local newsrooms. Today there are even fewer journalists covering Calgary but the need for in-depth local journalism hasn’t changed. People often tell me how important The Sprawl is for Calgary. But 2025 will likely be the end of the line for this project unless we get more financial support.

Jeremy Klaszus Founder & Editor. Jeremy Klaszus is a Calgary journalist who has been reporting on the city for more than 20 years. He launched The Sprawl in 2017 to help fill the ever-widening gaps in the city's media landscape. Prior to launching The Sprawl, he was a staff writer for Fast Forward Weekly, a columnist for the Calgary Herald and Metro, and a radio reporter for CBC.
