What exact passage did John Jones perish in? : r/caving - Reddit
The cave was called the Nutty Putty Cave. He thought he was in "birth canal" but was another part of the cave. Map's seem to label that area as "Ed's Push" but everything I've read and heard about the passage says it was uncharted. Either way, I doubt you will find many pictures other than the ones from the rescue effort.

Binky has updated the map, taking into account Nick Rivera's 2018 fixes, adding additional room names, etc. It is currently the most sophisticated and accurate map of the cave. I love maps like this.

Aug 24, 2020 · Question on nutty putty cave. Truly a tragic story. From what I’ve read, this system was particularly restrictive, posing a good challenge. The area where John (may he Rest In Peace) was exploring was “unmapped”. What I don’t understand is how a cave that was so popular and known about for decades wasn’t fully mapped out.

When a second person got stuck at Nutty Putty less than a week later, state officials closed the cave. The cave had been open for only six months when John got stuck. A pulley system freed the 5-foot-7-inch-tall, 140-pound teen in 2004, but John was bigger, farther down the tunnel, and rescuers could only reach about 6 inches of his legs.

Nov 29, 2023 · The Nutty Putty cave was already well known to be dangerous and for only the most experienced spelunkers and this guy just ran ahead and jumped into a random hole head first because he wanted to be the first one in. And he was almost in his 30s - not some overzealous teenager. His own fault.
