Feb 14, 2017 · Ubuntu has it's own audio driver for sound. You are only checking to see if you get sound in Ubuntu. If you don't, it is most likely because the hardware has failed. If you DO get sound in Ubuntu, that indicates the problem is with Windows and drivers. No point in playing with drivers and Windows fixes if it is a hardware problem.

Mar 17, 2017 · one problem with using the HDMI audio from the monitor is that if you have the monitor turn off say if not being used for 10 mins (power settings) then the sound goes too until you hit a key to re-enable the monitor. With a sound card so long as the computer is not in "sleep" mode it will work all the time.

Dec 4, 2021 · You're confusing the graphics AMD HDMI graphic card output with the motherboards onboard HDMI audio (it is only audio), there are 2 methods of delivering multi channel audio, 1 is by the digital optical toslink port on the back of the motherboard chassis & the 2nd is the hdmi port next to the toslink port on the back of the motherboard chassis.
