Kristi Noem is denying reports that claim her policies held up the government’s emergency response in the days following the July 4 Texas floods.

Just over a week after deadly flash floods swept through Texas Hill Country, the region may once again face a life-threatening deluge as slow-moving thunderstorms bring heavy rain, flash flooding, and rapid river rises to parts of central Texas Sunday.

KERRVILLE, Texas (AP) — Emergency crews suspended their search for victims of catastrophic flooding in central Texas on Sunday morning amid new warnings that additional rain would again cause waterways to surge. It was the first time a new round of severe weather has paused the search since the flooding earlier this month.

Ford and its philanthropic arm are donating money, and dealers will donate cars and aid to Texans impacted. Toyota and GM have plans to help, too.

"Life-threatening flash flooding" is ongoing in Kerr and Gillespie Counties -- including the areas of Kerrville, Comfort, Ingram, Hunt, Mountain Home, Waltonia, Harper, Kerrville-Schreiner Park and Cypress Creek -- according to the National Weather Service.

There are questions over why oversight was eased at Mystic Camp as it expanded in a hazardous floodplain, the AP reported.

Just weeks ago, President Donald Trump said he wanted to begin “phasing out” the Federal Emergency Management Agency after this hurricane season to “wean off of FEMA” and “bring it down to the state level.

Some governors and mayors are concerned over how current or potential cuts to agencies will impact how the government can respond in the future to major weather events.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has been exerting more direct control over the agency, which President Donald Trump has talked about "getting rid of."
