The recognition followed a KZN High Court decision, which found that King Misuzulu’s identification –based on a royal family meeting held on 14 May 2021 – complied with Zulu customary law.
This came after Misuzulu’s uncle, Prince Mbonisi Zulu, and and the King’s half brother, Simakade Zulu challenged the validity of the recognition of MisuZulu by Ramaphosa in October 2022.
Prince Mbonisi Zulu is opposing the application. He says the President acted on an unlawful decision from the AmaZulu Royal House. The Royal House hopes a final ruling will bring stability.
