Thomas Dohmke, CEO of GitHub, will step down to launch a new startup as the platform reaches record growth driven by Microsoft's Copilot.

Microsoft is making GitHub a part of its CoreAI division following GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke's resignation, which Dohmke announced earlier this week.

Part of Dohmke's legacy will be GitHub Copilot, which currently has 20 million users. The CEO discussed how GitHub Copilot has evolved "from a simple, but magical autocompletion tool to conversational coding with Copilot Chat & Voice."
