Just as Ottawa digs itself out from this week's heavy snowstorm, forecasters warn more winter weather is on the way this weekend.

The heaviest storm to hit the region since 2022 dropped 31 centimetres of snow — that's just over a foot — on Ottawa by early Thursday afternoon, as the city's snow clearing crews battled to keep the transportation network clear.

Environment Canada issued special weather statements for Ottawa and Gatineau late Monday afternoon, stating that a “highly impactful” winter storm was possible Wednesday evening into Thursday. Snowfall amounts could reach 20 cm to 40 cm, it said, with poor visibility and local blowing snow.
