American Marc Fogel, who had been detained in Russia since 2021, has been released from custody, U.S. officials said. The White House said in a statement from U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz that Fogel is currently leaving Russian airspace with President Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

Marc Fogel, a teacher, had been held in Russia since August 2021. He was classified as wrongly detained by the Biden administration late last year.
