Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Palisades neighborhood are reopening to the public this weekend despite concerns from some local residents and officials who fear it's too soon to allow wide access to the fire-damaged area.

With cleanup and restoration work still ongoing in the wake of the Palisades fire, all areas of Pacific Coast Highway will nonetheless reopen to essential traffic beginning Sunday, though with only one lane open in each direction — and with reduced speeds in effect,

For the first time since the devastating Palisades fire ignited on Jan. 7, all Pacific Palisades residents can now return to their properties.

The checkpoints will be removed at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, but only one lane will be opened in either direction for portions of PCH.
