More migrant shelters in New York City are slated to close this summer. Mayor Eric Adams said the city will shut down 13 shelters by June. Those 13 shelters have a combined total of about 10,000 beds.

The move comes as the city seeks to scale back its contracts with hotels acting as migrant shelters, saying most new arrivals have moved on.

The controversial shelter at 47 Hall St. in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill neighborhood, which housed roughly 3,350 single male migrants at the peak of the crisis, is among the handful of taxpayer-funded sites expected to close in June, according to city officials.

On Friday, Mayor Eric Adams announced the upcoming closure of 13 migrant shelters across the five boroughs, including the one located at the Holiday Inn Express off Wild Avenue in Travis.

The 2,000-person migrant shelter at Floyd Bennett Field and the problem-plagued relief center on Randall’s Island are among the other shelter sets set to close in the coming months. All told, the series of closures is set to cut the city’s capacity to shelter migrants by 10,000 beds, according to the Adams administration.

Sections of the federally owned airfield's runways were leased to New York City to be used as a shelter site for up to 500 migrant families in September 2023 after Adams criticized President Joe Biden for not doing enough to help manage the flow of migrants into the five boroughs.

The new closures include Hall Street in Brooklyn, one of the city's largest facilities which houses 3,500 migrants.
