The coldest temperatures of the season will blow through North Texas in the coming days. A powerful arctic blast partly tied to the polar vortex will bring frigid, bone-chilling weather to Dallas-Fort Worth through at least midweek next week.

Ray predicts 2 to 5 inches of snow could fall for parts of the Metroplex. Up to 8 inches is forecasted to fall in counties closer to the Red River. "Not all of this will stick at first but expect our first accumulating snow in almost a year," Ray said.

Meteorologists are estimating Dallas-Fort Worth will get snow next week, but the light accumulations won’t surpass a half an inch. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth predicts North Texas will have “some” winter precipitation early-to-mid next week.

The looming arctic air is putting a freeze on Fort Worth’s annual MLK Day parade. The annual Greater Fort Worth Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade and Rally has been postponed due to weather concerns.
