The Typhon, or the Strategic Mid-Range Fires System, which can launch Tomahawks capable of reaching China and Russia, will continue to be deployed in an unknown location in the Philippines.

The plans replicate the U.S. military’s deployment last year of the Typhon intermediate-range missile system, which was similarly deployed for Balikatan and then remained in the country.

In December, Manila said it planned to acquire the US mid-range Typhon missile system in a push to secure its maritime interests. Beijing warned such a purchase could spark a regional "arms race".
