Johnson, 23, suffered the shoulder injury during a loss to the Raptors last Thursday. Selected No. 20 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, the fourth-year wing was playing himself into the NBA All-Star conversation before the injury, averaging 18.9 points, 10 rebounds and five assists per game across 36 contests.
3:05pm: The Hawks have put out a press release officially confirming that Johnson will undergo season-ending surgery next week to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder and stating that he’s expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The Hawks have a protected first-round pick from the Sacramento Kings, an unprotected pick from the Los Angeles Lakers and a $23.5 million trade exception from Murray’s subsequent trade to the New Orleans Pelicans. However, the Hawks are also just $1.3 million from the luxury tax line and historically haven’t been willing to go over.
