Montana gubernatorial hopeful Ryan Busse fired back at Gov. Greg Gianforte this week after the incumbent declined to debate the Democratic nominee and slammed him as not a “credible candidate.”

The two leading candidates for governor have agreed on a date after feuding for weeks about sharing a public forum before November.

After publicly sparring for weeks about whether they would participate in a debate, Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte’s and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ryan Busse’s campaigns have agreed to participate in a televised debate in mid-October.

A week ago, Gianforte’s campaign announced to the press in an email that there was no point in debating Busse, whom campaign manager Jake Eaton called “unhinged,” lacking credibility, and unlikely to participate in an exchange of ideas on public policy.
