The North Carolina Court of Appeals paved the way for a law removing appointment power to the state elections board from Gov. Josh Stein (D-NC) and giving it to Republican State Auditor Dave Boliek to go into effect.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina's Republican state auditor made appointments to a new State Board of Elections on Thursday, the day after an appeals court agreed a law shifting that power otherwise held by the Democratic governor could still be enforced while the measure's constitutionality is appealed.

The North Carolina governor has appointed members to the State Board of Elections for over a century. Unless the state Supreme Court intervenes, that may change.
