The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a weak start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 24,775 level, a discount of nearly 50 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

Over the past seven years the Nifty 50 trend remained largely flattish on Friday, the 13th, except in 2020 and 2021 when the blue chip index actually gained 3.8% and 1%, not declined, thus negating the superstition.

The Sensex and Nifty began trading on Monday on a weaker note. Weak global indicators and worries regarding the upcoming WPI inflation data set to be revealed in the day weighed down the key benchmark indices.

The Nifty index is finding resistance near the 24,850 zone. The bias and sentiment for the index improved at the end of the week, experts say.

Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, opened in red on Monday. While BSE Sensex was below 82,000, Nifty50 was below 24,750.
