TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey’s attorney general said Tuesday chemical manufacturer 3M agreed to pay up $450 million to resolve lawsuits over natural resource contamination stemming from PFAS — commonly referred to as “forever chemicals.”

It marks the largest settlement regarding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances – known as PFAS — in the state’s history.

The state claimed ‘forever chemicals,’ also known as PFAS, contaminated groundwater from an industrial park where they were used for decades.

The union that represents the engineers who drive New Jersey Transit’s commuter trains has threatened a walkout as soon as Friday if a contract deal is not reached.
