The Major League Baseball All-Star Game has been around since 1933 and on Thursday evening Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz matched a rare feat in team history.

On its face, a three-game set in steamy July against 21-win Colorado might not seem like much of an attraction. But it should be.

To borrow Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s famous quote, for Cincinnati Reds outfielder Austin Hays it was, “A day which will live in infamy.”

With the Major League Baseball trade deadline less than a month away, the Cincinnati Reds sit just 1 1/2 games out of the last National League wild card spot.

Chase Burns (0-1) started and pitched six innings for the Reds. He totaled 10 strikeouts and 95 pitches, including 63 strikes, against 25 batters. Jordan Beck started in left field and batted cleanup in the Rockies' lineup. He went 0-for-3 against Burns and was struck out twice.
