Contract negotiations have broken off between King Soopers, City Market workers in the Denver area, and Kroger, the union representing the workers announced on Jan. 17.

Votes are scheduled for January 29 in Westminster and the following day in Greenwood Village. King Soopers made what it called its “last, best and final offer” to the workers’ union last week. The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 rejected it.

Together, with potential strikes by Safeway and Costco workers, grocery workers could launch one of the first major labor struggles under the new Trump administration.

Around 10,000 King Soopers employees are getting ready to vote on a potential strike following failed contract negotiations with the grocer.

A statement by King Soopers accused union negotiators of “stall tactics and creating uncertainty.” The company said its final offer included significant investments of up to a 6% increase in the first year of the contract and “promises to support, protect and invest” in employees’ interests.

The union has until Jan. 31 to make the decision to vote to strike or not. Former president George W. Bush took the internet by storm during the 2025 Inauguration of President Donald Trump, where the 43rd president seemed to have a playful moment during the proceedings.
