Illinois will dry out first, then Indiana—but regardless, still be careful of slick area roads and sidewalks with the ice patches.

Lake-effect snow is going to be the worry most of the day in Chicago and even into the early evening hours as well.

While some areas won't see much snowfall or any at all, a band of lake-effect snow is expected to develop starting Sunday night, possibly dumping several inches of snow in far northeastern Illinois.

Hampton Roads might get another round of snow and ice this weekend as a nor’easter is expected to move across the South. According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield,

Sunday won’t offer much relief, with cloudy skies dominating throughout the day. Highs will barely reach the mid-20s. Lake effect snow is expected to develop Sunday night and continue into Monday. Keep an eye on the forecast, as this snow could bring some accumulation and make for tricky travel conditions. Stay tuned!

It’s cold, and it’s going to stay cold in Chicago with only minor fluctuations in temperatures likely over the next couple of weeks.

The seasonably cold January weather is sticking around Chicagoland this week. Early-morning temperatures Wednesday were in the single digits away from the lake and in the teens closer to the lake, with winds out of the northwest dropping wind-chill values to around zero in some locations.

As Arctic air and frigid temperatures continue, the next chance for snow in the Chicago area comes Thursday into Friday as part of a winter storm developing in the southern U.S.
