The Virginia Beach-based district was considered one of the closest contests in the country and key to each party’s hopes of taking control of the House.

Republicans won control of the Senate in Tuesday’s elections, gaining seats in West Virginia and Ohio. Other tight races remained too close to call in both the House and the Senate, as Democrats were hoping to win a House majority as voters across the nation cast ballots.
