The four-story former administration building has been transformed into 59 apartments, most of them one-bedroom units.

A three-alarm fire that ignited early Friday morning destroyed a commercial building in the 7th Ward that neighbors say was frequented by vagrants, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.

According to the NOFD, the first fire happened inside of a vehicle repair shop at 1217 Franklin Ave. in the Ninth Ward neighborhood of New Orleans, with the report coming out at 3:55 p.m.
