Joseph Woll and Jake Oettinger are the starting goaltenders for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars, respectively, in Tuesday’s matchup, and their longtime friendship is an endearing quality at this stage of their careers.

Oettinger made 27 saves in a 4-1 win over Toronto on Tuesday. Auston Matthews ripped a shot high blocker from the left face-off dot early in the first to open the scoring, but Oettinger shut the door from that point.

The friendship goes back to their days together with the United States national team development program and continued from 2016-19 in Boston, when Oettinger played for Boston University and Woll tended the net for Boston College.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were looking for a better effort against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night than they had in their last two games. They did get that.

The Dallas Stars are back in action Tuesday night and are hoping that they can snap a losing streak while starting a new one. Dallas currently is looking to end a seven game losing streak to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
