WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals are already in a good position to make a run at winning the Stanley Cup this season, and general manager Chris Patrick says “anything is on the table” to try to further strengthen their roster before the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline on March 7.

Doing a deal for the sake of doing a deal is not necessarily the right strategy,” Capitals General Manager Chris Patrick said Thursday, as he addressed the looming NHL trade deadline.

As the NHL trade deadline approaches, the Washington Capitals are in a slightly different spot than other contenders. While the Caps want to ice the best team possible, there’s a thought that the best version of the team might be the one they have today.

The Washington Capitals are in a class of their own in the Eastern Conference this season. With 24 games remaining in the regular season, Washington’s 84 points are the only remaining challenger to the Winnipeg Jets’ 87-point total for the NHL’s Presidents’ Trophy.
