Many cities and counties around metro Atlanta have opened warming centers to help residents affected by this week's freezing cold weather and possible snow.

As temperatures drop over the next couple of days, the following warming centers are opening in the city of Atlanta and surrounding areas.

Winter weather is on the way Tuesday to metro Atlanta and north Georgia, with much of the region under a Winter Weather Advisory that begins at 10 a.m. In a somewhat unusual occurrence, the heavier impacts from the winter weather are expected farther south,
