In Ikea’s 2010 catalog, the company replaced the venerable Futura font family with Verdana, which has just four styles: regular, italic, bold, and bold italic.

The very ubiquity of Verdana seems to be part of the font’s appeal. Freely distributed by Microsoft, the typeface allows Ikea to use the same font in all countries and with many alphabets.

The font, called Noto, was launched in 2016 by Google and Monotype, which spent five years creating a family of typefaces that include upwards of 300,000 glyphs representing more than 800 languages.

A research funded by computer giant Microsoft has revealed that Verdana is the best font for users to read text even as small a size as 10 without any discomfort.

The findings suggested that Verdana was the preferred font, as shown in figure 1 above. The survey did not take into consideration differences in font size.
