Seven inmates have died at the Oklahoma County Detention Center since January, raising serious concerns about safety and oversight within the facility.

The Oklahoma County jail has had its seventh inmate death of 2025, matching the total who died all of last year. Convicted murderer Mario Latrael Mason, 26 was pronounced deceased at a hospital at 6:46 p.m. Monday, May 12, after being found unresponsive in his cell, the jail reported in a news release.
