The Kansas State Wildcats and Iowa State Cyclones didn't have to travel all the way to Ireland to learn what they did from 2025's edition of "Farmageddon."
No. 22 Iowa State survived a late comeback from No. 17 Kansas State to win a 24-21 slugfest and capture the first victory of the 2025 season at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland. The Cyclones converted on a critical fourth-and-3 to win a third straight game against Kansas State.
And we're not talking about two Joe Smith's here. Their names are a little less common, as two Iowa State football players both share the name Jace Gilbert. One kicker, one defensive lineman. One Jace T. Gilbert and one Jace J. Gilbert. Thankfully they can be differentiated by their middle initials.
Those who couldn’t make it to the Iowa State vs. Kansas State game in Dublin watched in anticipation from Ames. Bars in Ames planned events and watch parties across the city to accommodate fans watching the kickoff to the Cyclones football season.
Rocco Becht passed for two touchdowns and ran for another score, helping No. 22 Iowa State beat No. 17 Kansas State 24-21 in the Aer Lingus Classic on Saturday. Becht was 14-for-28 for 183 yards. He found Dominic Overby for a 23-yard TD in the first quarter and passed to Brett Eskildsen for a 24-yard score in the third quarter.
Those who made the trip to Ireland may not want to see a Guinness for a while after Kansas State lost its Week 0 opener vs Iowa State.
