After months of waiting, the city council has voted to bring in a full-time police chief in Hartford.

The search for a new police chief in Hartford continues. Tonight, one city councilman is expected to present a resolution that outlines a more public selection process for selecting a new chief.

A former Hartford police chief has returned to his old department. Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam announced on Friday that James Rovella will serve as the Hartford Police Department’s interim chief.

Former Hartford Police Chief James Rovella will serve as the interim police chief of the Hartford Police Department while the search for a permanent chief continues, according to the mayor. This comes after the first nominee for the job withdrew from consideration not long after being named.

And then there was one. The city’s candidate to fill the vacant deputy police chief position is finishing a series of pre-employment checks ahead of being formally offered the job as early as next month,

Starting on Monday, former Hartford Police Chief James Rovella takes over his old job at least temporarily. This comes as city leaders hope to bring more transparency to the hiring process for a new permanent chief with more on those plans.
