State lawmakers are pushing for a constitutional amendment to instead create a new elected cabinet position called the Commissioner of Government Efficiency. It passed its first committee Tuesday.

Florida voters would be asked to do away with the office of lieutenant governor and create a new Cabinet position under a proposed constitutional amendment filed Thursday in the state House.

That officer would be elected by the voters to investigate and report on fraud, waste, and abuse in state government.
