Instagram's outage was so widespread, the comment section on downdetector had more than 12,000 comments almost immediately after it was reported. What's App also encountered problems at the same time.

Outages began rising rapidly around 12:30 p.m., with more than 100,000 Facebook users and tens of thousands of Instagram users reporting problems by around 1:10 p.m.

Users on Wednesday reported problems accessing a number of Meta's social media apps, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads and Messenger, according to outage tracking service Downdetector.

Meta owns and operates Facebook, Instagram, Threads and Whatsapp. Downdetector showed 8,234 reports of outages from Whatsapp users. Among those, 82 percent reported problems with sending messages.
