Breanna Stewart will start her ninth WNBA season in a few days. The New York Liberty All-Star and WNBA champ has been around the league long enough to watch her peers fight for visibility. She's seen only a small uptick in player salaries over the years amid the WNBA's meteoric rise in popularity.
Against all odds, the Dallas Mavericks have earned the number one pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, where highly-coveted Duke freshman Cooper Flagg is expected to be the first player selected when the draft takes place in June.
As the Golden State Valkyries prepare to start their inaugural WNBA season, they already have the league's most expensive ticket by one metric.

It's a rare Texas two-step of No. 1 picks for Dallas. The Dallas Wings had the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft last month and took UConn's Paige Bueckers, and now the Mavericks will follow as holders of a No. 1 pick.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft posted 10 points, four rebounds, and an assist against the Las Vegas Aces on May 2. She followed that up with 15 points, five rebounds, and six assists this past Saturday against Team Toyota Antelopes.
Dallas' hoops culture has seen its lows as of late. But Bueckers' arrival and the possibility of drafting Flagg could be a game-changer.
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Wings waived a top-15 draft pick and a Japanese guard ahead of the 2025 season. The Wings announced they had waived rookie guard-forward Madison Scott and Japanese guard Mai Yamamoto on Sunday.
Scott spent five seasons in Oxford under head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, averaging 11.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Together, they led Ole Miss to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances — a major turnaround for a program that hadn’t made the Tournament since 2007.
