Santa Ono, the president of the University of Michigan, was unanimously approved by Florida’s board despite criticism from conservatives of his past views on diversity programs.

On May 4, Ono announced he was leaving UM as the sole finalist for the UF presidency. Ono served as Michigan’s 15th president for less than three years, making him the shortest-serving UM president. Four days later, the University of Michigan board of regents named Domenico Grasso as the university’s interim president .
