Sherman says the plane took off from Sandia Airpark in Edgewood, N.M. on Saturday. Later the evening, a woman called Douglas County authorities to report the sound of a stalling plane overhead.

The crash occurred at about 11:15 a.m. while a Cessna 172 plane was landing at Sandia Airpark. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
