The MacBook Pro 16 with M4 Pro feels like a powerhouse, even more so against the base M4, but I'm wondering where the hell is WiFi 7?

Apple has officially announced the M4 MacBook Pro, and while it's not a redesign, it includes these six big changes from the previous generation.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro, like the previous model, features a 16.2-inch, 3,456 x 2,234-pixel resolution display with ProMotion technology (i.e., up to 120Hz refresh rate). As expected, the display looked gorgeous while I feasted my eyes on the new Squid Game 2 trailer. It's rich, vibrant, and pure visual eye candy.

Obviously, with a new round of MacBook Pros, we get a new round of chips – and that remains true with the upcoming MacBook Pro. We’ll be seeing the M4 chip, which initially debuted in the iPad Pro earlier this year, alongside the higher end M4 Pro and M4 Pro chips.

However, Apple dropped the M4 chip and obliterated Windows laptops in one fell swoop. On Geekbench 6, the MacBook Pro notched a sweet multi-core score of 15,199. This beats our most powerful non-gaming PC laptop, Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, which delivered a score of 14,548 on the same test.

The MacBook Pro 16-inch (M4 Pro, 2024) is an overall excellent MacBook Pro that delivers a a vivid display, incredibly fast performance and astonishing battery life. It's ideal for those who want a 16-inch MacBook Pro but don't want to splurge for the even more expensive M4 Max model.

Unlike the 14-inch model, there’s no base M4 option with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, making the M4 Pro-toting model the ‘entry level’ choice. It features a 14-core CPU with 10 performance cores four efficiency cores, and a 20-core GPU.

When it was introduced during the white plastic heyday of peak iPod-era Apple, the Mac mini was pitched as the cheapest way to buy into the Mac ecosystem. It was $499. And despite some fluctuation (as high as $799 for the entry-level 2018 mini, $599 for this year's refresh), the Mac mini has stayed the cheapest entry-level Mac ever since.

Early teardowns reveal that the M4 Mac Mini uses slotted modular SSDs, rather than soldered-on memory. This modular system means that storage upgrades are technically feasible, but Apple's proprietary SSD design makes upgrades a non-starter for the average customer.
