Over a decade after its initial creation in 2014 and seven years after Mac Miller’s tragic death in 2018, Miller’s second posthumous and seventh studio album “Balloonerism” released Friday.

The estate of Mac Miller has released a new body of work from the late rapper in Balloonerism, and the early reactions from X are positive.

"Balloonerism," the second posthumous set from rapper Mac Miller's vaults, leads a batch of new music releases that also includes titles from David Gray, Lanco, Rufus Wainwright and newcomers Willow Avalon and Metal Bubble Trio.

“Balloonerism” was shelved around 2014 in favor of the album “Watching Movies With the Sound Off” and the mixtape “Faces.” To my ear, it's closer to “Faces” but rawer and less intense. Even so, just having Miller back in our ears is a reason to celebrate.

Miller’s debut studio album, Blue Slide Park, topped the Billboard 200 upon its release in back in 2011, the first independently distributed debut album to do so since 1995. Over the course of five studio albums, Miller evolved into one of the most eclectic artists of the 2010s, delving into alt- rap, soul and R&B with equal fervor.
