A rare species of tree cactus has gone extinct in Florida, in what is believed to be the first species lost to sea level rise in the United States, researchers said Tuesday.

The Florida Native Plant Society, which focuses on promoting native plants in their natural habitats, urges against the introduction of non-native species in anticipation of climate change.
