A domesticated honeybee hive is usually made up of two boxes; the brood box where the queen bee lays eggs, and the super, which is where you’ll find the honeycomb that stores the honey.

So imagine my excitement when on Sunday I put on my first honey super, the next box in the hive ... Of the 10 frames, eight have wax-covered plastic comb to help the bees start the cells.

Those are the simple little gadgets that you use when you want to clear bees from a box of honey ... a lot of honey, since the bees had to expend a lot of energy drawing out comb.
