Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale became the fastest in Major League Baseball history to reach 2,500 strikeouts in the team's win over the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday.

Sale entered the game needing eight punchouts to reach the mark, and he got it to end the sixth as Edmundo Sosa swung and missed at an 81-mile-per-hour slider in the dirt.

Not only did Sale join Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw as the only active MLB pitchers to reach the feat, he became the fastest pitcher to get there. Sale needed 2,026 innings, which beat legend Randy Johnson – who recorded 2,500 strikeouts in 2,107 ⅔ innings.
