Employee residents are ‘Weavers’ and corporations are ‘Inventors’ in the new village near Mount Fuji.

Toyota’s futuristic Woven City, which is being built on the site of a former car factory in Japan, is almost ready for its first residents. At CES this week, the Japanese auto giant updated the public on the progress of the $10 billion project,

Beginning in fall 2025, 100 residents known as “weavers” will move to the city, with that number expected to expand to 360 during phase one. Eventually, Toyota says, up to 2,000 people will reside in the city. They will primarily be employees of Toyota or Toyota’s Woven by Toyota mobility tech company.

Toyota’s futuristic city, designed for up to 2,000 residents, reached its first milestone with sustainable innovations like robot dogs and eVTOLs.

Toyota Motor Corporation is moving ahead with its vision of the future where it isn’t a mix of Camrys and Corollas, or hybrids and EVs, but one of “inventors” and “weavers’ in a community centered around mobility.

Toyota has completed construction of the first phase of its experimental Woven City at the foot of Mt Fuji and people will start moving in in fall 2025

With the first phase of construction complete, the private city at the base of Mt. Fuji will welcome around 100 Toyota employees this fall.

The company broke ground on a test site about a year later, and last October, the company wrapped up construction of phase one, which Toyota announced this week at CES 2025. Later this year, the ribbon will come off Toyota's Woven City,
