A newly released audit on the San Francisco Police Department’s massive overtime budget has found that some officers are working dangerously high amounts of overtime — and potentially abusing sick leave to do so.

An audit released Thursday found that a handful of officers in the San Francisco Police Department may have violated policies related to overtime. City leaders requested the audit last year after SFPD’s overtime spending surged to around $108 million the year prior.

The 128-page report says SFPD spent over $108 million on overtime during the 2022-2023 financial year and also states that the department failed to adequately monitor or enforce overtime limits.
