WREG Investigators learned new information about the man accused of shooting and killing a Selmer Police Officer. Selmer Police said the shooting occurred Saturday afternoon when Sgt. Rick Finley responded to New Bethel Road regarding a suspicious person who tried breaking into a residence and fired shots into a door.

A Selmer police officer and another person are dead after an officer-involved shooting in McNairy County, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed.

The officer who was killed in a shooting will be escorted from Memphis back to McNairy County on Sunday evening, according to McNairy County Sheriff’s Office. Officer/Deputy Rick Finley who was working part-time with the Selmer Police Department but full-time with the McNairy County Sheriff’s Department was shot several times and later died after responding to a suspicious person call on New Bethel Road on Saturday just after 3:00 p.
