Overwhelmed by effects and overelaborate world building, “Red One” feels like an unwanted high-priced Christmas present.

Much of it whooshes by in a blur of CGI effects that can leave you feeling dizzy, like you downed too much spiked eggnog at Aunt Edna's annual Christmas Eve extravaganza. But it's not all bad, even if it feels more like a joke movie within another movie than it does an actual movie.
