Orlando officials on Thursday condemned the state’s overnight removal of a rainbow crosswalk outside the Pulse nightclub – a commemoration of the 49 people killed at the LGBTQ-friendly nightclub in 2016.

The mayor of Orlando, Fla., said that the crosswalk mural, which featured the Pride flag’s colors, was removed overnight this week. Community members protested and have, for now, repainted it.

Painted over, colored in, and painted over again, what until recently was an approved and undisturbed rainbow crosswalk outside of the former Pulse Nightclub is now black, white, and apparently under supervision.
